MY TAROT STORY
My intuitive inclinations first surfaced around age 4, when I would approach my parents with "messages" from my spirit guide. As a child, I would retreat into my head and connect with this guide whenever I needed support or comfort. I did not understand the true nature of what I was doing; it just felt natural to me, so I went with it. I was highly sensitive and had trouble connecting with other children as a result. I spent the bulk of my time alone in my own dreams and imaginations, reading and writing voraciously.
20 years later, tarot found me at my darkest moment. I had just lost my father, the most powerful guiding and grounding force in my life, to cancer. I dissociated for about a year, allowing my emotional wounds to go untreated.
When I finally woke up, I found that my life had disintegrated around me. I had quit my "dream job" after struggling to juggle its demands with my unmanaged grief. My relationships with family and close friends had crumbled. My fiancé had abruptly disappeared from my life without trace or explanation. I chose to fill these voids with partying and superficial friendships. I was adrift with no purpose.
One day while browsing a small toy boutique after a particularly trying mental health week, I passed by a tarot deck which stopped me cold. Instinctively, I purchased it; then I walked to the used book store a few doors over and found a tarot reference guide.
I don’t think I slept for 48 hours after. I sat at a wooden table by the window in my shotgun apartment and threw myself into tarot, practicing on family and friends and shedding more than a few tears in the process.
Several nights a week I would quietly sit in the corner at a local bar and read for myself, until strangers began approaching me with questions. I realized that just how many people are awakened by therapeutic benefits of tarot, and other forms of divination and holistic healing. I wanted to build a trustworthy and approachable channel for people from all walks of life to access these services. That is when Tarot By Rebecca-Louise was born.
Since then, I have studied with some of the most respected and experienced readers in the industry, as well as with the International Tarot Foundation. I have also taken courses and seminars on astrology, crystal and chakra healing-- disciplines which appear often in my readings. I have absorbed dozens of books and resources from industry leaders such as Rachel Pollack, Melissa Cynova, Anthony Louis, Theresa Reed, and Brigit Esselmont. Tarot By Rebecca-Louise is now my full time job, and I have clients across the world. I am still flattered to think that anyone wants to invite me into their life in such a precious and meaningful way, so I take this responsibility very seriously whenever it is bestowed.
I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; now I live in New Orleans, one of the most magical places on earth, with my cats Elliott and Teddy. I have a Sagittarius Sun and Aries Moon, with Virgo ascendent (add me on Co-Star @Rebecca.LM89). My personality type is INFP “The Mediator”-- one of the four most highly sensitive and intuitive types. When I am not studying tarot and other esoteric fields, I am practicing guitar and ukulele, listening to punk music, testing out new vegetarian recipes, and enjoying the beach as much as possible!
